To encourage and maintain high standards of patient care
To encourage and assist in the continuing education of dental practitioners
To encourage and initiate research in clinical dentistry
To encourage improvement in general practice management
To enhance provision of primary dental care
To foster good relations between GDPs and other allied professions
To keep GDPs informed on matters affecting dental practice and related subjects.

A group of general dentists, who were in the pioneer batch of successful candidates of the Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons (England), conceived the idea for a College of General Dental Practitioners in 1998.

The Board of Advisors comprised:

Mr Chan Yee Wing, the then Chief Dental Officer
Mr Malcolm Pendlebury – Dean, Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK), The Royal College of Surgeons of England
Prof Ho Kee Hai of the Dental Faculty, National University of Singapore

The Registrar of Societies approved the registration of the College in mid-1999.

Our first official registered address was the National Dental Centre.

OUR LOGO

The logo comprises the stylised letters – C, G, D and P – which are the initials of our name.

The letters are arranged to form a tree to symbolise growth and development through education and mutual support amongst members.
The colour blue inspires trust, conveys authority and progressiveness ? hallmarks of the modern dental practitioner.
The above values are encircled by our organisation’s name, thus completing the idea.
